A Week of Mission

August 7, 2010

This will be short, because I’m tired and I have to get up early tomorrow to head to the beach.  But, KUMYF Mission Week is over and it was a resounding success.  In the last week, the kids have served meals at a soup kitchen (twice), worked to support the Knightdale United Methodist Church Food Pantry, gone gleaning and helped Habitat for Humanity deconstruct a house and salvage as much of it as possible for resale in their store.  Each morning, the group would meet and spend time over a devotion written by different members of the congregation and then, it was off to work.  And, work they did.  How many teenagers do you know who would give up one of their last weeks of freedom before school starts to bust their butts doing things for someone else.  I don’t know of that many.  But, the ones I spent this last week with are pretty amazing.  And, I’m proud to be part of their group.
